Ballots Bay lies tucked away between steep green hills above a small beach carved out of the rugged Southern Cape coastline between Victoria Bay and Herolds Bay near George. We are just 15 minutes from George with all its shops, malls, restaurants, cinemas and airport. 

Ballots Bay is sheltered from most winds, it is the perfect retreat for angler, beach lover or nature enthusiast. The rocky aquamarine cove sparkles like a jewel at the foot of a verdant river valley, hence the name Ballot’s Bay, a treasure chest of nature! 

Contained within the narrow 50 hectare confines of the valley itself, are five distinct ecological zones, supporting a wealth of flora and fauna. The bay and its surroundings, cover 500 hectares, officially named George Private Nature Reserve.

Ballots Bay Accommodation

Self catering accommodation in comfortable, wooden 1 to 3 bedroom lodges. They are fully equipped, bedding and towels are supplied. Designed to be unobtrusive, the low-profile wooden homes have spectacular sunrises and sea views, ideal for whale watching.

Activities & Attractions

• Southern Rights come close inshore to calve at Ballot’s Bay. Playful schools of dolphins feature regularly in this ocean circus.
• Hiking trails lead you through indigenous forests raucous with bird song including the magnificent Knysna Lourie’s  or across grasslands with free roaming  Zebra, Buck, Ostrich, karakul and tortoise. 
• There is a trail to a water hole with a bird hide and another to a forest lapa.
• The swimming and surfers paradise of Victoria Bay is 10 minutes away. Wilderness, 15 minutes away offers its blue Flag status beach, canoeing, Tandem jumps off Map of Africa, Friday Village Market and top restaurants. 
• Game Parks are 20 minutes away where one can walk with Lions or ride an elephant and the area abounds with top golf courses such as Fancourt and Oubaai.
